Unit 2 of the Smart and Simple Social Studies Texas History Guided Curriculum is about Patterns of Settlement in Texas. The main topic of this unit is designed to help upper elementary students understand how various geographic factors influenced the urban, suburban, and rural communities where people settled, as well as the population distribution of Texas.
Unit 6 of the Smart and Simple Social Studies Texas History Guided Curriculum is about the Texas Revolution. The main topic of this unit is designed to help upper elementary students understand and learn about and analyze the causes, major events, effects about the Texas Revolution between Texas settlers and Mexico.
Unit 8 of the Smart and Simple Social Studies Texas History Guided Curriculum is about the Texas in the Late 19th Century. The unit covers the social, economic, and political events and changes that specifically affected Texas during the late 1800s, including the Civil War and Reconstruction period. This unit also covers the rise of the Texas cattle, railroad, and oil industries.
Unit 9 of the Smart and Simple Social Studies Texas History Guided Curriculum is about the Texas in the 20th Century. The unit covers the social, economic, and political events and changes that specifically affected Texas during the 1900s, including The Great Depression, The Dust Bowl, World War II, and the Civil Rights Movement.
Unit 10 of the Smart and Simple Social Studies Texas History Guided Curriculum is about the Economic Activities of Texas. The unit covers the basics of economics and the Free Enterprise System, as well as important economic activities and work patterns in the 4 main regions of Texas, past and present. Students will also learn about various effects of exploration, immigration, migration, and limited resources on the Texas economy.

The main topic of this unit is designed to help upper elementary students understand the characteristics of the four major regions of Texas – Mountains and Basins, Great Plains, North Central Plains, and Coastal Plains.
Unit 7 of the Smart and Simple Social Studies Texas History Guided Curriculum is about the Republic of Texas, Annexation and Government. The unit starts with the successes and challenges of the Republic of Texas, events surrounding the annexation of Texas into the United States and the resultant Mexican-American War. The unit ends with information about the Texas Constitution and characteristics of the structure and function of the Texas state government.
Unit 4 of the Smart and Simple Social Studies Texas History Guided Curriculum is about Indigenous Groups in Texas. The main topic of this unit is designed to help upper elementary students understand and learn about the rich history, culture, and way of life of 11 Indigenous groups that have inhabited Texas for hundreds of years.
