Why Learning Stations?
Learning Stations offer an engaging, low-prep way for students to practice and review social studies concepts already taught, and apply critical thinking skills. They are ideal for:
- Independent work
- Small group practice
- Centers or stations
- Differentiated instruction for ELL/ESL students
How It Works
Option 1 – ROUND ROBIN: Distribute the 6 learning stations around the room. Give each student a copy of the recording sheet. Divide the class into 6 groups. Give students 5-10 minutes to complete each station before rotating to the next station (in numerical order). Have students either self-check or discuss answers as a class after all groups have rotated through all stations.
Option 2 – SMALL GROUP/INDEPENDENT: Allow students to work on the learning stations independently or in groups of 2-3 students. Make enough copies of the learning stations and give each student or group a copy of the recording sheet. Each student/group can work at their own pace in the order of their choice. Have students either self-check after completion or discuss answers as a class after all students have completed the stations.
Social Studies made Smart and Simple!
Teach about important events, ideas, and individuals while providing your students with meaningful, standards-aligned activities that are easy to implement and engaging for learners of all levels.
